Chapter Six

Bruce was dressed in his work clothes—leather pants and mesh shirt. He’d put on his eyeliner and moussed up his hair into an artful mess, too. He’d managed to get Alex into an old t-shirt that was a little tight - or at least it was when Alex wasn’t Mr. Far Too Skinny—and had the odd artful rip. Alex had balked at the eyeliner and while Bruce thought it was a shame—Alex would be hot with a bit of the dark lining his gorgeous eyes—he didn’t push it.

Now they were sitting in Chains, examining the menu. It was just after eight and they’d decided to have their burgers here. Bruce knew they had a great chef and he figured Alex might appreciate coming in to meet some of Bruce’s work friends before the place was slamming busy.

“You want me to order for you, baby?” he offered. “I know what’s good here.”

“Sure. You know what I’ll eat.”

“You’re not picky.” He grinned and waved at Jason, the little twink of a waiter sashaying his way over and batting his eyelashes at both of them. “Who’s your friend, Brucy?”

“This is my husband Alex. Alex, Jason’s the best waiter here.”

“Pleased.” Alex shook Jason’s hand, then leaned back.

Jason looked Alex up and down, licked his lips and gave a wiggle of his very scantily clad ass. “Very. Now do you know what you want to eat?”

Bruce tried hard not to laugh. “We do. Alex will have the double cheese and bacon burger and I’ll have the firecracker burger. Both with fries and Cokes, please.”

“You got it. Bring him back, Brucy, he’s totes adorbs.” Jason gave Alex another appreciative look and headed to the POS system to put in their order.

Alex blinked at him, a little like a lizard. “Brucy?”

“Yeah?” Bruce rolled his eyes. “He started it, the other twinks picked it up and before I knew it, it had stuck.” The music had a nice hard beat, the bass low, thrumming through him and he found himself bobbing his head to it. Bruce did enjoy the atmosphere here.

“Listen to you. You sound fifteen years younger.”

“I do?” He wasn’t sure what Alex meant by that.

“You do. You sound like the happy guy I met before being married to a cop made him miserable.”

Bruce shook his head. “Being married to you has not made me miserable. I love you. Top to bottom.” Man, this last job had really messed with Alex’s head. He hated the times Alex was away, but he was very happy being married to Alex and having his husband around.

“I love you too.” But Alex didn’t sound convinced.

Bruce hated that, hated that the job made Alex question everything, especially the two of them.

“So tell me about your job here,” Alex suggested.

“I bartend. Remember how I took that mixology class and bartended my last year of school? So I had a little experience, you know? And that’s what I do here. I bartend. Everyone’s really nice and if I flirt a little, I get the best tips.
